On the road to the Maturembá Ethnoecological Corridor

Announcement

Due to the closure of the Descobrimento National Park and out of respect for the Pataxó indigenous causes, the Study Tour event will be postponed to a date yet to be determined.

The event is expected to take place in 2025, following the same program and objective of immersing participants in the forest restoration process and experiencing the formation of an ecological corridor in the Atlantic Forest.

The new date will be set in conjunction with ICMBio, FUNAI and regional indigenous leaders and will be announced two to three months in advance by FASB.

Registration is still open and sponsorships are still being negotiated.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership!

The Study Tour 2025 offers a unique experience of living in projects that are connecting fragments of the Atlantic Forest to form a 500km ethno-ecological corridor.

The event

O Study Tour 2025 brings the theme “Maturembá Ethnoecological Corridor: From Seed to Dense Forest". This study trip is an invitation to explore the process of creating an ecological corridor together.

“Maturembá”, which means ‘dense forest’ in the Pataxó language. It is the name chosen by the indigenous communities for the Descobrimento National Park because of the level of conservation and preservation of the Atlantic Rainforest.

The Study Tour 2025 goes beyond theories and debates about restoration. Participants will hike through different stages of the Atlantic Forest, have contact with the traditionalities of indigenous communities in Pataxó Villages and experience real projects along the way that will bring a lot of learning and networking.

The construction of an ecological corridor is a process developed by from seed to dense forest; Each stage is fundamental and requires the joint action of everyone involved. The ecological corridor is a path, which is why this Study Tour's unique proposal is to walk along it.

The best stories are those written by the experiences we live.

The experience

With the intention of offering activities that are as close as possible to an environmental restoration process, our route, like the construction of the ecological corridor, will be a process in which every step counts, will require time and the perseverance, commitment and coordinated action of all the participants.

We will leave the parked vehicles to take a trail that will take us to visit different restoration interventions in the Atlantic Forest. The metaphor of the road will provide us with an enriching experience that will certainly broaden our discussions.

Participants will:

  • Experience the work of FASB and iNovaland Brasil and their intervention methodology by visiting the work carried out in the Maturembá Ethnoecological Corridor;
  • Expanding the network of partners and contacts to help establish ecological corridors and/or restoration projects in general in other regions and biomes.

The learning

The metaphor of the road will certainly broaden our discussions and allow us to delve deeper into FASB's intervention methodology and discuss essential aspects for the sustainability of restoration with the participating companies, institutions and project developers.

We will address crucial issues of sustainable management applied to forest restoration and the durability of these landscape interventions, such as the maintenance of the work carried out, the enhancement of carbon and biodiversity.

The place

The Study Tour 2025 will start in the municipality of Itamaraju and end in Porto Seguro, Bahia.
